CYO Awards 2025 "Bill Ford" CYO Scholarships

The Oakland Diocese CYO Scholarship Committee has awarded four CYO scholarships to outstanding 8th Grade CYO playes  The four represented parishes from around the diocese in a variety of CYO sprots.  The common theme among the awardees this year was a dedication to service withn their pariess, schools and communities.   The awards were made after review of 58 applicoatns and interviews with eight of the candidates. Each awardee will receive $1000. to be used toward eduation. The scholarship is funded by a private foundation.
 
The scholarships were awarded to
Evan Baraan, St. John the Baptist, San Lorenzo. Evan ran CYO Cross Country and played CYO Basktball.  He was active on Student Counci at St. John's School. He wrote that "CYO has deepend my reationshop with God. Starting each game with a prayer reminds me that sports is bout more than thank 
 
All played multiple sports in CYO and are active in church and other activities.  They all had something to say about how their sports experience related to their faith.
